There Are No Masters

THERE ARE NO MASTERS

 

Imagine what it would be like if at the flick of a switch all power on the planet was gone for good. No lights, no technology and no machines to help you survive. In the blink of an eye we would all be back in the dark ages, and although people would of course help each other, law and order as we know it would also be gone.

 

 

Under such a situation people would have to grow their own food, for example, or maybe steal it from others. Of course we would all say that due to our martial art training and our high level of moral standards we would never do such a thing, even if we were only days away from starving to death - or would we?

There will be times in most, if not all people lives, when things will become so bad that only your strong mind and strong spirit will help you to get through the bad times, but for those who say their martial art training and their endurance will see them through such times are somewhat delusional and will often fail the first if they have never experienced such things before.

 

Anyone can call themselves a martial art master and claim endurance, enlightenment and a strong spirit during bad times, that takes no effort at all, but when in a real situation that pushes all your skills and willpower to the test, many people will fail.

 

A short term situation will have no true lasting effects, of course, but imagine a long term problem that simply does not go away. I have known what it is like to walk the streets, homeless, and with no hope and the last thing I had on my mind is the power of the martial art spirit, my concern was only how to survive.

 

I have often wondered how homeless people who have no martial art training whatsoever survive the streets for years, but of course they don't they die in the end.

 

Over the years I have seen countless people who have been trained in the martial arts, both grandmaster and student alike, crumble to dust in various ways having been exposed to bad situations even though they have tried their hardest. Having seen these things with my own eyes over the years this has made me realise that there are NO MARTIAL ART MASTERS - only people.
